Ivory Ornamental Tarantula (Poecilotheria subfusca 'Highland')
SIP Code: IL-OW-AR-S-017
Region: Central Highlands, Sri Lanka – montane forest canopy
Lore Fragment
"High above the mist line where trees split stone, Poecilotheria subfusca coils between bark and lichen—ghost-white and silent. The highland elders say it does not climb to hunt. It waits for gravity to bring the unwary."
Overview
Poecilotheria subfusca ‘Highland’, known as the Ivory Ornamental, is one of the most elegant arboreal tarantulas in the genus. Featuring intricate ivory, slate, and umber patterns across its legs and carapace, it thrives in cool, high-humidity environments with strong vertical structures.
This species is fast, alert, and defensive when threatened. It is best suited for experienced keepers familiar with Old World arboreal behavior and quick reflexes. In the right setup, it becomes a highly visible, architectural webber with refined movements and presence.
