Category
New World Terrestrial / Fossorial
Adult Size
Females: 3 – 4 in (7.5 – 10 cm) leg span
Males: smaller, lighter build
Temperament / Behavior
Generally shy and fast-moving rather than defensive. Will retreat into its burrow when disturbed but may flick urticating hairs if persistently agitated. Produces dense, decorative webbing around its retreat and is frequently visible at the entrance. Its vivid metallic-blue legs and contrasting green carapace make it one of the most colorful dwarf species in the hobby.
Recommended Enclosure
Compact terrestrial setup with 3 – 4 in of slightly moist substrate for burrowing. Provide cork bark or half-log hides and anchor points for webbing. Ensure moderate cross-ventilation to prevent mold buildup while retaining humidity near the retreat.
Temperature & Humidity
Temperature: 74 – 80 °F (23 – 27 °C)
Humidity: 70 – 80 % RH
Ventilation: Moderate airflow; light misting once weekly to maintain balance
Diet / Feeding Frequency
Slings: Flightless fruit flies or pinhead crickets 2–3× per week
Juveniles: Small crickets or roach nymphs twice weekly
Adults: Appropriately sized crickets or dubia roaches once weekly
Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours.
Growth Rate & Lifespan
Moderate-to-fast growth. Females reach maturity in 2 – 3 years and live 10 – 12 years. Males mature faster and typically live 3 – 4 years post-maturity.
Handling / Caution
Handling not recommended. Small and quick, easily startled. Use tongs or soft brushes during maintenance.
