Origin / Habitat

Native to coastal rainforest regions of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Inhabits humid canopies and low vegetation where it builds tubular silk retreats among leaves and bark. The environment is consistently warm and moist with steady airflow and heavy seasonal rainfall.

Category

New World Arboreal

Adult Size

Females: 4 – 5 in (10 – 13 cm) leg span
Males: smaller and slender

Temperament / Behavior

Generally docile but quick and agile. Prefers to flee rather than show defensive behavior. A. geroldi is famous for its metallic blue-green iridescence, soft pink tarsi, and calm disposition. Produces moderate silk tunnels and spends much of its time perched near retreat entrances.

Recommended Enclosure

Vertical arboreal enclosure (~12–14 in tall) with cork bark, branches, and foliage for web anchoring. Use 2–3 in of lightly moist substrate and ensure excellent cross-ventilation. Avoid standing water and condensation.

Temperature & Humidity

Temperature: 75 – 82 °F (24 – 28 °C)
Humidity: 70 – 80 % RH
Ventilation: High — strong airflow is critical to prevent mold and respiratory issues

Diet / Feeding Frequency

Slings: Flightless fruit flies or micro crickets 2–3× per week
Juveniles: Small crickets or roach nymphs twice weekly
Adults: Medium crickets or dubia roaches once weekly
Remove uneaten prey within 24 hours.

Growth Rate & Lifespan

Moderate growth rate. Females mature in 3 – 4 years and live 10 – 12 years; males typically 3 – 4 years post-maturity.

Handling / Caution

Handling not recommended. While gentle by nature, this species is delicate and can leap suddenly if startled. Use long tools and minimize enclosure disruption.
